3 davids?!?! February 28, 2008

ok, i am a fan of american idol, though i have only ever made it through one entire season from start to finish because i usually get bored along the way. the only season i ever watched completely was with taylor hicks… i picked him from his audition as the winner and it was fun to watch him along the way.

ANYWAY, to keep my attention for now, i have decided to post my thoughts and opinions on this current season.

so far i have been more impressed with the men in this competition than the ladies. i just finished watching the girls sing (i had to record it because of bible study). i need to post my predictions before tonight’s elimination (which i will also be watching on recorded tv because of band pratice).

so here it is, my official predictions for this 2008 season of american idol.

based on what i’ve seen so far, here are my predictions for the top 6 boys (in no particular order):

Michael Johns

Jason Castro

David Hernandez

David Cook

David Archuleta

C ould it be possible to have 3 davids in the top 12?! I think so. Archuleta is adorable and absolutely incredible. Hernandez does not get enough recognition for how good he actually is. Cook is good, plus we need a rocker. :) i think the last slot is tricky and, depending on what happens next week, will probably go to chikezie or danny noriega. if it goes to luke menard, it will be purely because he is good looking. he is terrible. I like most of these guys, but i think, for now, my favorite is jason castro. he can sing, he’s adorable, he has dreadlocks, he’s slightly socially awkward (like my favorite roomie), and hello – he can play guitar. yay for hippies.

As for the women: i think overall they are sucking. they need to step it up for next week. i feel like the 70s theme has killed a lot of them and that a lot of people will vote based on previous performances. i have a feeling next week will be 80s… uh oh.

Anyway, here are my ideas for top 6 (again, in no particular order):

Carly Smithson

Syesha Mercardo

Brooke White

Ramiele Malubay

Alaina Whitaker

Asia’h Epperson

i can’t decide who is my absolute favorite girl so far. i love brooke white because she is so personable without being too ditzy – she is real, and she’s pretty good. can she win? probably not, but she can enjoy staying in the competition for a while. i have really been impressed with syesha mercado. i have liked asia’h in the past too, but this week she wasn’t too good. if she can pull it together next week, she could still make it. this week was really hurt her, but her past performances have been great.

so who should go home this week?

Hands down with the girls – Amanda Overmyer and Alexandra Lushington with Kady Malloy and Kristy Lee Cook on their way out the door next week if they don’t shape up.

For the guys – Luke Menard. his song this week was TERRIBLE and it hurt my ears. i am not lying when i say i had to mute the tv until it was over. i think it’s a toss up for who else will go home, probably Robbie Carrico or Jason Yeager. i mean, if we’re going to have 3 davids in the top 6 guys, we can’t have two jasons too.

feel free to comment with your own idol predictions and i might post tomorrow with reactions from who gets eliminated this evening. :)

june 16th it is! February 22, 2008

well, thanks to the crust of ice this morning, i will now be going to school until june 16th. if we do not have any other snow-related closings between now and then, i am curious to see how many parents are actually going to send their kid to school for three hours on a monday.

anyway, instead of using my day off to be resourceful and hardworking, i played monopoly online, read some books, and watched the travel channel.

productive? no         blissful? absolutely :)

current travel channel obsession? Anthony Bourdain’s ‘No Reservations.’ He is hilarious and awesome, i LOVE this show.

advice from a stranger? February 22, 2008

yesterday our lovely and former 6th and 7th grade social studies teacher came to visit us with her new baby (the reason that she is no longer the current teacher). her baby is one of the cutest babies i’ve ever seen (you can’t top the maloy children). he is two months old and cute and cuddly like any baby would be. she brought him in during our lunch break and i got to hold him, which was wonderful. when things are crazy, i find that “baby therapy” soothes me the best – which is one of the reasons i LOVE going to the maloy house (besides the fact that i adore amy).  anyway, later on, our 6th grade team leader, George, said to me, “you know, meghan, you looked pretty good holding that baby. that baby looked good on you. i think i can see your future.” uh… thanks? i know he meant it as a compliment and that’s how i took it… and then i thought “oh god, i’m only 23″

then today, when i got home, there was a woman out walking her dog. apparently she lives in the neighborhood. i had a very interesting interaction with her. it went something like this:

lady: “Hello! do you live here?”

me: “uhh.. yes,  i do.”

lady: “oh… because i’ve never met you before.”

me: “uhhh (feeling slightly awkward) well, i do. i mean, my parents own the house.”

lady:”oh ok. how old are you?”

me: “23, going to be 24 in june”

lady: “oh WOW! you are YOUNG! do you go to college?”

me: “no, i graduated 2 years ago. now i’m a teacher in the county. i teach 6th grade english.”

lady: “WOW! GOOD FOR YOUUUUU!!! what school?”

me: “omms”

lady: “wow, i am so proud of you. do you have a boyfriend?”

me: “(caught slightly off-guard) umm… no, not currently.”

lady: “oh, that’s too bad. that’s what you need to do next. get a boyfriend, get married and have children.”

me: “hahaha (nervous laughter), yeah, that’s next on my list (what am i saying?!)”

lady: “LOTS of children.”

me: “(still nervously laughing)”

lady: “well, see you later.”

me: “it was nice meeting you.”

lady: “i’m christine, what’s your name?”

me: “i’m meghan. it’s nice to meet you.”

lady: “have a great day. bye”

mind you this whole conversation happened in the time span of her walking her dog across the front of our house. it was very strange. perfect strangers pressuring me to get married and have kids? join the club, neighborhood lady, join the club. i’m 23 and im not rushing anything… teaching is like being a mom to 120 kids and that is enough for me :) (for now)

ciao lucas February 20, 2008

today was the first day that i walked into my 5th period class and did not see lucas’s face. lucas was one of my gt students in my last period class. friday was his last day because he was moving back to brazil. it hit me today when i looked up to see him and didn’t. it hurt to cross his name off of my attendance roster. lucas was (and is) a teacher’s dream: polite, honest, trustworthy, hardworking, smart, friendly, helpful, etc. now, there have been quite a few students to come and go this school year, but for some reason, lucas leaving hit me differently.

in my 5th period, we have quite a unique set-up. this is a class of only 14 (where my others top out at 27): 7 girls and 7 boys. because of this, i feel like this class is closer – we know more about each other because we are so small. no one gets lost in the mix, everyone is a recognized and valued member of any activity we do. when one is missing, it is so noticeable because there are so few of us. if only all classes could be like this.

anyway, i think today in 5th period we all felt it. everyone was a little sad and would look in the direction of lucas’s desk and see an empty chair. he will do great things in brazil and meet new people and perhaps one day, lucas’s chair will be filled by another student for us to invite into our unique situation. plus now, the girls have the advantage which makes the boys nervous. :)

so i decided to enter the world of blogs as a way to get my ideas out of my head and into the world. i also want to share stories of my life and thoughts about all kinds of topics. please don’t expect perfection, but rather insight, a good laugh, and possible randomness. so let’s all hop in for this wild ride as i explore my first attempt at a blog. :)
